Frequently Asked Questions
What is a "session fee"?
It is your investment to cover the session time, image processing time, hosting your proofs in an online gallery for 60days as well as travel time/expenses.
When and how do I have to pay?
A non-refundable deposit of 50% is required to reserve a session appointment and the remaining balance is due 7 days before your session. I will email an invoice via PayPal for the deposit and again for the remaining balance that includes a link where you can submit the payment via credit card or debit card online.
Where will my session take place?
At the park, in your home, or at the studio! All session fees include any location within 30 miles of the zip code 97216 and I am happy to recommend some of my favorites. I also have access to a studio space in the Pearl if an indoor session is preferred. And I'm always happy to photograph in new and exciting places! Let me know if you already have a great location in mind!
What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?
Umbrellas and rain boots can make for a very "Portland" style session if it's damp outside! I'm up for a little rain if you are... but bad weather happens. Rain and wind are inevitable in the Pacific Northwest. I'll keep a very close eye on the weather forecast and if it looks like a downpour that might impact the outcome of your session, we will reschedule your outdoor session as soon as possible.
What should I wear?
The right clothing choices can make all the difference in how your portraits turn out. Simple clothing choices are best for creating timeless portraits. It is all about the right selection of color, textures and accessories. Jeans and khakis, or sun dresses are classic and photograph well. Select colors from the same color family and avoid plaid, tiny print patters or clothing with words printed on them. Bare skin is my favorite on newborns and babies. But if you have a super cute outfit in mind for baby, let's use it! Just keep in mind that little ones may get grumpy if there are too many clothing changes. Diaper covers, hats or headbands, and soft blankets are a great idea too!
What else should I bring?
Bring a favorite toy, or blanket, a dance costume, or even fresh cut flowers. Does your child play an instrument or sport? Bring whatever your child loves to do! Same goes for grown ups too! Feel free to represent your profession, your hobby, or your passion. I love photography! What do you love?
When will I be able to see the images?
Turn around times do vary by session, but you can generally expect your proofs to be ready 3-4 weeks after your session date (Wedding Sessions are generally 4-6weeks). You will receive an email with a link to your online gallery to review your proofs. (See proof example below)
How long do I have to purchase my images?
Archival of your photos is very important to me. While I will do my best to keep digital copies of all (edited) images from all of my session images forever, technology changes rapidly, and let's be honest, it sometimes fails. I can only guarantee the archival of your images for 12months. My best advice? USB thumb drives may be the "it" way for data storage for another 5years or so, but archival quality prints never go out of style and will last for generations!
Feeling under the weather yourself?
I want you and your child to enjoy the photo session, and a sick child may not like having his or her portraits taken. If you or your child is sick and need to reschedule, kindly call me ASAP. One date change will be offered free of charge. No need to fret when your child gets a small boo-boo on his or her face days before the photo session however. Minor re-touching is included in Sweetbird Photography's print prices.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Absolutely! Professional photography makes a great gift for nearly everyone and session gift certificates and/or print credits are available in any amount!
